Attorney Mark Knightley told the board the settlement stemmed from allegations that certain banks used rounding software that slightly altered bond interest reset calculations over several years. The state attorney general pursued the matter on behalf of affected issuers, and the village is slated to receive a distribution. "We're gonna get, like, $35,000," Knightley said while explaining the nature of the case and legal work involved.
Knightley said the case generated voluminous discovery and required subpoenas; legal support saved the village from more extensive travel costs. The board acknowledged the settlement as "found money" for the village and thanked counsel for the work that yielded the distribution.
