Commissioners keep 2025 employee health plan after failed motion to raise dependent supplement to $4,500

Commissioner Rod Cleveland moved on Oct. 14 to approve a 2026 Employee Health Benefits resolution that would keep current plan provisions but raise the spouse and dependent supplement to $4,500, with the stated goal of fully covering the cost for at least one child or dependent. Cleveland described other elements — the in‑lieu‑of‑cash benefit and FSA option — as unchanged and included in the budget.
The motion received no second and therefore failed. Chairman Jacob McHughes then moved to retain the current benefits plan for 2025 and suggested revisiting the matter with the Budget Board; Commissioner Rusty Grissom seconded and the motion passed unanimously. McHughes said he wanted more time to review figures with the Budget Board because some numbers were shared late.
