The Village of Davis Junction convened a public hearing Oct. 22 on a proposed tax levy of $142,935, which staff described to the board as a 35% increase over the prior year. "So we're doing a tax levy of a $142,935, which is a 35% increase from last year," a village staff speaker stated during the hearing.
Officials said the levy was calculated to phase in revenue needs and avoid a single year "shock." Staff presented the per-property estimate of roughly $25.38 annually for $100,000 of assessed value and framed the levy increase as part of an effort to "catch up somewhat" on village revenues. No members of the public spoke during the hearing.
After closing the hearing, the board moved to adopt Ordinance 24-12 formalizing the levy. Trustees moved and seconded the ordinance and approved it in a roll-call vote recorded in the meeting minutes. The ordinance implements the levy level discussed during the public hearing and was listed on the agenda as Ordinance 24-12.
The board said the levy revenue will be used to support ongoing village operations and capital priorities discussed elsewhere on the agenda, including water-system planning. The ordinance was approved the same evening; the board did not identify any further public hearings specific to the levy schedule.
