Employees say insurer switch was rushed; committee defers decision
Summary
County employees and committee members told the Employee Benefits Committee the recommended insurer change was sudden and confusing; the committee postponed decisions to allow staff to prepare clearer benefit comparisons and education materials.

Committee members said employees raised concerns about the short notice of a recommended insurer change and unclear differences between the previous HealthChoice Select plan and the new plan recommended by the Budget Board. Members reported that some services available under the former plan — cited in discussion as spinal injections — might not be covered under the proposed plan, while some preventive services would be cost-free under the new option.
Because of those concerns the committee postponed decisions on employer FSA and HSA contributions and on supplemental spouse/dependent coverage so staff can produce comparative materials and outreach to help employees understand provider networks and coverage changes. No dollar amounts for employer contributions were finalized during the meeting.
