Advocates urged the council to include a marked, safer crossing at 900 West and 800 North in the city's CIP funding decisions to protect students walking and biking to Rose Park Elementary.
"The primary crossing we found is at 900 West and 800 North," said Seth Common, community engagement and education manager at Bike Utah, noting the location lacks overhead lights and a pedestrian push‑button. Common described community engagement events and a quick‑build project that yielded measurable safety improvements and stronger perceptions of safety among students.
Summer, who introduced herself as principal at Rose Park Elementary, said hundreds of children cross 900 West daily and that the project would benefit students across the neighborhood and nearby schools. "Every day we have hundreds of kids who come from the East Side Of 900 West to come to school," she said, urging council support.
