Staff said past drives had included jackets and miscellaneous items, but West Valley requested a focus on food; commissioners discussed start/end dates, pickup options for donors, school barrels and visual progress trackers.
"They did say that, you know, to them, it is, a lot more helpful if we provide, food," a staff member said, explaining the rationale to focus this year's effort on canned and boxed items rather than clothing. Commissioners suggested postering, an e-blast, Nextdoor and podcast mentions to boost participation, and discussed working with high-school contacts to place collection barrels during school hours if permitted by school administrators.
Staff recommended and commissioners settled on a Dec. 19 delivery date so the food reaches recipients before the holidays, and the motion to run the drive (Nov. 3–Dec. 19) and donate items to West Valley Community Services passed by unanimous show of hands. Staff will prepare a flyer, coordinate pick-ups for residents who cannot drop off, and confirm the drop-off window with West Valley Community Services.
