Stonington staff report truck failure, sewer pump outage, termite damage and shallow gas main

Superintendent Jake Heberling reported multiple maintenance and safety issues at the Dec. 1 meeting. He said the 2006 truck lost its four-wheel drive during snow removal and that a North Street sewer pump failed and will need to be rebuilt or replaced. Heberling also reported termite damage in the ceiling and wall of the Village Shop and noted ditching work east of town had left a gas main about a foot deep; he said gas mains are supposed to be three feet deep.
President Bruce Dowdy acknowledged that buying a replacement truck was not included in this year’s budget and said he would review the general fund to determine whether to begin phased truck replacements so they do not all need replacing at once. No formal procurement decision was made at the meeting; Heberling’s report identified repairs and possible replacement needs that will require follow-up by staff.
