President Bruce Dowdy introduced Ashley LeVault, who described plans for two community fundraising events to support the Marilyn Wattelet Memorial and a proposed scholarship. LeVault said the organizers hope to begin by offering a $1,000 scholarship, and that assistance for families in need would not be limited to Stonington but would include Christian County and surrounding counties; she noted the organizing group is a legal organization with an EIN.
LeVault outlined event details: a Play It Forward volleyball tournament scheduled Jan. 17, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the Stonington Community Center Gym & Cafeteria, including a photo booth donated by Brownback's, volunteer face painting, raffle baskets, a 50/50 drawing, lunch, a bake sale and concessions. A second event, Praise It Forward — a night of worship — is scheduled for Feb. 28, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. at the Stonington Community Center Gym. LeVault requested volunteers and donations to support the efforts.
