Stonington board tables proposed ordinance allowing property-entry for blight issues to December meeting

The board discussed a draft "Ordinance to Regulate Structures Within the Village of Stonington," prepared by Village Attorney Scott Garwood, intended to give the village a process to address overgrown vegetation, rubbish and dilapidated homes. President Bruce Dowdy outlined that the ordinance would authorize entry onto properties for code enforcement purposes and said the attorney suggested collecting photos, addresses and GPS coordinates to determine whether a property is liable under the proposed rules.
After discussion and requests for clarity, the trustees agreed to table the item until the Dec. 1 regular meeting and asked that Attorney Scott Garwood attend to explain the ordinance and answer questions. The board did not adopt the ordinance at the Nov. 3 meeting.
