Charleston planning board: survey closes Aug. 29; community event set for Sept. 20

The Planning Board reported that the comprehensive plan survey will close Aug. 29 and a community event is scheduled for Sept. 20 at the Schoharie River Center; consultant Amy will draft the plan after data collection and it will proceed to town staff review and state environmental review.
Amanda Peterson, vice chair and a member of the Comprehensive Plan Committee, told the Planning Board on Aug. 13 that the community survey for Charleston’s comprehensive plan closes on Aug. 29 and a second community event is scheduled for Sept. 20 at the Schoharie River Center. She said the committee will reuse the website launch signs and that a draft vision statement has been produced from initial participation and survey responses.
The board discussed next steps for the plan’s completion: consultant Amy confirmed the draft vision aligns with the comprehensive plan and that she will write the full plan after all survey and event data are gathered. According to the board, the completed draft will go to Danny for local review and then to the State for environmental review. The committee reported that all of Amy’s invoices through July were approved and that two of three reimbursements submitted to the State have been received, describing the project as “in the black.”
