Village Engineer Al Fusco told the board the village will have a closing Oct. 4, 2024, for a $10 million water improvement project that includes a $4.7 million state grant and a combination of $1.7 million in 0% interest loans plus additional market-rate loans. He said the first phase will tie in some wells, install a new water tank "that will be over 400,000 gallons," and upgrade water plants and pumping systems.
Fusco said the village has also submitted materials to the state to be considered for future grants that would cover meter and pipe improvements. He estimated the first phase will take about two years because of grant restrictions and the need to go out to bid. The engineer tied recent flooding and the frozen valve at Merriewold dam into the water program, saying repairs and a valve replacement identified by the Department of Environmental Conservation are part of related infrastructure work. "It takes time but we are working on it," he said.
