Charleston planners say community survey is closed; draft comprehensive plan moving forward

At the Town of Charleston Planning Board meeting on 09-10-25, members reported that the community survey for the town's Comprehensive Plan is closed and staff are completing paper entry of remaining responses. Amy, the consultant referenced in the meeting, is expected to incorporate that input into a draft plan for review.

Amanda Peterson, vice chair and a member of the Comprehensive Plan Committee, said, "Amanda will have all the metrics by the end of this week," and the board will distribute those metrics to both the planning board and the town board. The committee described recent outreach: a banner at the transfer station gate, a second banner at the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department, flyers at the new country store, and planned distribution at Hummingbird Hills. The board outlined the next procedural steps for the draft: local board review, State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR), county board review, revisions based on those reviews, a public hearing, and then local adoption.

Board members also noted administrative follow-ups: Amanda owes Joseph Fitzpatrick an updated reconciliation of invoices for consultant payment, and Patty is preparing reimbursement number 4 to submit to the State. The board emphasized that the timeline will depend on outside review periods and that staff will return with the revised draft after those reviews are complete.
