Sodus Point adopts Local Law No. 3 updating vehicle and parking rules; 30 mph limit reaffirmed

The Village of Sodus Point Board of Trustees voted Sept. 19 to adopt Local Law No. 3 of 2024, an update to Chapter 175 of the village code covering vehicle and traffic rules, parking restrictions and enforcement procedures. The resolution was moved by Trustee Kallusch and seconded by Trustee Madison; Mayor McDowell, Deputy Mayor Kallusch and Trustee Madison voted aye while Trustee Bristol voted nay, and the resolution was adopted.

The law restates that thirty miles per hour is the maximum speed limit within the village corporate limits and establishes a Traffic Violations Bureau under the Village’s authority. It codifies parking prohibitions — including a ban on overnight parking between 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. from Nov. 1 through March 31 — designates special‑purpose parking zones and fire lanes, and authorizes the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police and village parking enforcement officers (and, for certain fire‑lane violations, Sodus Point Village Fire Department chiefs) to enforce the provisions. Penalties are scaled by repeat offenses, with example fines described in the code.

Trustee Kallusch introduced the resolution and presented the text for adoption. "MOTION by Trustee Kallusch and seconded by Trustee Madison," appears in the record as the procedural motion for adoption. The board's action follows a July 31 public hearing referenced in the resolution text and includes language allowing the Board to adopt or amend related regulations by separate resolution and publication.

The law also sets administrative rules for impoundment and requires reporting when vehicles are removed; it specifies that regulations adopted by the Board take effect upon publication unless the Board determines otherwise. The village clerk will publish the adopted provisions as required and implement any marking or signage changes noted in the code.
