Sodus Point planning board weighs short-term rental rules, inspections and permit caps

The Village of Sodus Point Planning Board used a pre-meeting on Sept. 3 to review short-term rental (STR) rules and consider edits tailored to local conditions. Chair Bruce Evener said the board compared Sodus Point’s regulations to other towns, including Huron, and will circulate updated STR language for members’ review.
Janine Fogarty raised concerns about the local housing effect, saying many Airbnbs are operating in concentrated areas and "workers don’t have places to live." Board members discussed inspections, who would perform them and how they would be funded; Evener said the mayor would raise funding and staffing during Village Board discussions. The board discussed establishing an initial cap on special permits and creating a listing or registry of STRs to increase public transparency.
