Lake Worth ISD trustees reelect Armando Velazquez as president; Sonja Norman remains vice president

The Lake Worth ISD Board of Trustees held its annual reorganization during the Dec. 16, 2024, regular meeting and voted to retain Armando Velazquez as board president.
During nominations, Tammy Thomas nominated Mac Belmontes and Bret Tooke nominated Armando Velazquez for president. Belmontes received three votes (Belmontes, Burt and Thomas) and Velazquez received four votes (Tooke, Gallagher, Norman and Velazquez), leaving Velazquez as president.
The board next nominated a vice president. Cristina Gallagher nominated Sonja Norman and Mac Belmontes nominated Tammy Thomas. Norman prevailed 4-3 and will serve as vice president.
For secretary, Sonja Norman nominated Bret Tooke. Tooke was declared secretary with six ayes and one abstention from Mac Belmontes.
The votes were recorded on the meeting agenda and reflected in the roll call. The reorganization proceeded at the start of the meeting after the call to order at 6:02 PM.
