Town of Springport clarifies special-event permit thresholds

The Planning Board minutes from Sept. 17 record that town officials clarified the rules for special event permits. Howard Tanner said that events with fewer than 200 attendees do not require a town special-event permit. Events with between 200 and 1,000 attendees would require a permit unless the event generates profit from sales (for example, selling food), in which case New York State Agriculture and Markets regulations may govern permit requirements.
That clarification came during a broader discussion of the Staehr property and town permitting history. The minutes note that questions about past special-permit issues were addressed by a prior Town Board, not the current one.
