St. Armand departments report routine operations; town receives $50,000 NYSERDA award
Summary
Highway, water and wastewater superintendents presented routine maintenance and equipment needs; wastewater reported a needed blower (~$8,000). During the Sept. 17 regular meeting town department heads reviewed recent operations and maintenance work.
Highway Superintendent Douglas Snickles (excused) submitted a written report noting final mowing, patching, installation of playground equipment and receipt of 100 tons of salt. Water Superintendent Jonathan Neilson reported routine meter reads, chlorine residual testing, hydrant maintenance (50 hydrants flushed/painted with two still requiring repairs) and completion of a DOH inspection. Wastewater Superintendent Joshua Woodruff reported a camera inspection by New York Rural Water Association for inflow/infiltration and manhole evaluations; he noted the need to order a replacement blower (Blower #2) next year at an estimated cost of about $8,000, and requested an additional field light for the youth fields.
Supervisor Davina Thurston announced the town was awarded $50,000 from NYSERDA for a Clean Energy Communities Energy Study. The board intends to use the funds for Highway Garage upgrades (Wi‑Fi thermostats, door sweeps, spray-foam insulation and new gable vents) and, if funds remain, to install variable frequency drives at the town pump house.
