St. Armand board backs Adirondack Park local-government call to move surplus state lands to private use more quickly

By unanimous vote on Sept. 17 the St. Armand Town Board passed a resolution endorsing the Adirondack Park Local Government Review Board’s request that state government act to move surplus state-owned facilities that do not meet the 'Wild Forest' classification back to private ownership more quickly.
Councilperson JP O’Neil, sponsor of Resolution #69, outlined concerns about long-term vacancy of former state facilities and the economic impacts on rural towns when state-owned administrative properties remain unused. The resolution lists several affected facilities across Forest Preserve counties and requests that copies be forwarded to Gov. Kathy Hochul and a slate of state senators and assemblymembers.
The board’s resolution framed the request as a means to facilitate quicker reuse of properties and to address local economic harms resulting from facility closures. The motion was seconded by Councilperson Donna Whitelaw and adopted by unanimous roll-call vote.
