Library staff told the board Jan. 13 that they spent much of the first week reminding children about appropriate behavior after the new facility opened.
Senior Librarian Carl Sachs reported that, because requests for 'walking feet' and other behavioral reminders were often ignored, administration and PR staff recommended adding more behavior signage, running social-media posts and sending a mass email to cardholders. The goal is to set clear expectations for patrons as the library transitions from opening crowds to regular operations.
Board members supported the approach and asked staff to implement signage and communications ahead of increased program activity.
