IDD TAC asks DMS to develop autism‑specific long‑term residential options and uphold Olmstead integration

Wayne Harvey, chair of the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Technical Advisory Council, presented two recommendations to the MAC: that the Department for Medicaid Services evaluate current and projected demand for specialized long‑term care options for people with profound autism and complex medical/behavioral needs, and that DMS remain committed to the Olmstead requirement to support community living for people with disabilities who choose it.
The MAC voted to forward the IDD TAC recommendation to DMS. Wayne Harvey said the autism recommendation originated with a parent advocate on the TAC and noted the group approved the recommendations by quorum. DMS staff indicated they would provide progress reports at IDD TAC meetings and that Carmen Hancock had attended the TAC’s recent meeting and reviewed work toward these goals.
