Council green-lights EDA grant application for East wastewater treatment plant design

Fernley utilities staff secured council approval to pursue federal funding for design of the East Wastewater Treatment Plant. Utilities Director Azzie Hincky described the project as eligible under the EDA's Public Works and Economic Adjustment Assistance Program and said the estimated cost for design is $3,066,000. "The city may be eligible up to 80% of federal funding," Hincky said, and the resolution commits the city to provide a local cost match in the range of 20% to 40% if required.
Councilman Torres, who led the successful motion to adopt the resolution, called the project a long-term priority and said staff have worked for years to position the city for federal funding. The council voted 4-0 to adopt the resolution directing staff to submit the grant application and to set aside the required match if the award is made.
