Mayor Kiefer announced that Councilmember Pettigrew submitted her resignation effective Aug. 10 and read prepared remarks thanking Pettigrew for years of service to Boardman.
Pettigrew responded, saying she made the decision after turning 80 and encouraging volunteerism. "I didn't make this lightly," Pettigrew said, adding that she intends to remain involved as a volunteer and attend meetings when able.
Council discussed the vacancy process and directed staff to advertise the opening. Council agreed to set letters-of-interest and candidate-packet deadlines to align with candidate filing on Aug. 25 at 5 p.m., and discussed the intent to select and, if possible, swear in a replacement at the next council meeting. Staff also noted three open positions and confirmed applications must be submitted to the city clerk by the announced deadline.
The council did not select a replacement during the meeting.
