Mercedes ISD approves First Care EMS consulting agreement for athletic events

The board approved a consulting agreement between Mercedes ISD and First Care EMS to provide ambulance services at sub-varsity athletic events. Coach Adame, who presented the item, said the district has used the vendor previously and that the City of Mercedes provides ambulance services for Friday night football games without charge. "They used the City of Mercedes Ambulance service for Friday night Football Games at no charge," Coach Adame noted while explaining the proposed scope for sub-varsity events.
Trustee Nancy Vallejo asked whether First Care EMS is certified to provide the services and requested additional documentation; despite the request for more paperwork the board voted 6–1 to approve the consulting agreement, with Vallejo recorded as the lone vote against. Administration recommended approval. The district will follow up to verify provider certifications and any required documentation.
