The Mercedes ISD Board unanimously approved an agreement with Arbiter Sports for ArbiterPay to streamline payments to athletic officials.
Trustee Nancy Vallejo asked whether the subscription would help the district avoid issuing 1099 forms to contractors and whether an unlimited subscription could cover other 1099 services. The minutes state that “this could possibly help not only with paying our referees but with all the 1099 employees depending on which subscription the district was to purchase,” and CFO Sylvia Garza said she would look into the subscription options further. The motion to approve included a condition that staff explore expanding the subscription to cover broader 1099 payment processing.
