Town investigates sudden water-bill jump; hydrant maintenance continues
Summary
Water Superintendent Jonathan Nielson reported the town has flushed/painted 32 of 50 hydrants and identified a wiring connection problem between a recently purchased meter and reader that produced a billing jump from 8,100 to 23,700 gallons for one household; the board will review the next quarter billing before any adjustment.

Water Superintendent Jonathan Nielson told the board he has serviced hydrants across town (32 of 50 flushed, lubricated and painted) and continues routine meter reads and chlorine residual testing. He also described a customer complaint in which a household’s measured usage rose from 8,100 gallons in one quarter to 23,700 gallons the next after replacement of both a meter and a reader; Nielson said he found a wiring connection problem between the new meter and reader and personally installed the replacement meter.
The board agreed to wait for the next quarter’s billing to see whether the issue recurs before making any billing adjustments. The town will monitor meter-reader connections and will adjust the household’s bill if the next cycle confirms the earlier reading was erroneous.
