Commission authorizes RFQ for Safe Streets for All consultant to study county crash sites

Commissioners voted to issue an RFQ seeking a consultant to lead planning and design work for a Safe Streets for All grant application. Clay Phillips described the consultant’s role: to develop a comprehensive safety plan for Saint Clair County, identify high-crash locations and recommend countermeasures and demonstration projects.
"It's to come up with a comprehensive safety plan for Saint Clair County," Phillips said, explaining the consultant will look at county and municipal roads (state-maintained roads are excluded) and recommend temporary demonstration countermeasures to evaluate possible larger projects. Commissioners discussed that the grant allows multiple demonstration projects—Phillips and the chair noted the county can include municipal roads by agreement and could propose up to 10 demonstrations in the application.
