Kathy told the board to "please do take note as you're walking out of the building, of the additional AED that was installed right outside, of the girls' restroom at the end of the hall," and described a portable AED backpack available for sports teams and field trips.
She credited former health aide Jessica Erwin for researching, ordering and ensuring installation of the devices and stressed the need for organized CPR and first-aid training so staff certifications are tracked and do not lapse. Board members discussed how to manage certification expirations and suggested group professional-development sessions as the most efficient approach.
Kathy noted that while the district currently has no students with known heart issues, portable AEDs can protect adults and visiting parents as well, reinforcing safety as a priority.
