The council authorized the mayor to sign an application for FAA grant funding to replace the airport taxiway and update lighting and drainage work, approving Resolution 2026-093.
Public Works Director Dan Gillis said the project grew from an initial $2.79 million estimate to about $5.1 million after design work identified additional runway connections and lighting replacements. "We're at $5,100,000 right now," Gillis said, and he described taking opportunity of current grant funding, noting the FAA's typical contribution and the state's role in administration. Gillis said the FAA contribution for this project would be roughly 95%, the state would contribute about 2% (up to a cap) and the local match would rise to approximately $192,750.
Council members praised staff for pursuing the funding opportunity; the council voted 8'0to'00 to authorize the mayor to sign the grant application.
