Superintendent Nicole Permili told the Jackson Township School Board that the meeting was her last as superintendent and used her remarks to reflect on 35 years in education and the district's recent restructuring. Permili reviewed the district's response to the pandemic, difficult budget decisions driven by what she called a "flawed funding formula" and the choices the district made to preserve programs and opportunities for students. She thanked staff, administrators and families and credited the board and central office team for helping the district navigate financial and operational challenges. "I am proud of what we accomplished," she said.
The superintendent identified Mr. Bighinski as the district's next superintendent and urged the community to support the leadership transition. Board members offered tributes during the meeting: the board president said, "On behalf of the board of education, thank you for your unwavering dedication," and the board presented Permili with a commemorative stepping stone tied to the district merger. The Jackson Township High School chorus then performed a musical tribute under the direction of Rebecca Young.
