Midlothian ISD trustees unanimously certify Nov. 5 election returns

The Midlothian Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved a resolution to canvass and certify the results of the Nov. 5, 2024 special election during a Nov. 18, 2024 special meeting. Trustee Jessica Ward moved to approve the resolution and Trustee Ed Harrison seconded; the motion passed with all members voting in favor.

The resolution, entered into the meeting record, summarizes the election record and vote counts and directs the district to report the certified returns to the Texas Secretary of State. In part the resolution states: "IT IS THEREFORE ORDERED, ADJUDGED AND DECREED by the Midlothian Independent School District, in Midlothian, Texas, that the returns be certified and reported to the Texas Secretary of State in accordance with the Texas Election Code." The resolution text in the minutes lists vote totals as For 12,312; Against 16,544; Total 28,856, and references an ad valorem tax rate value of $1.1069 and a stated maintenance and operations revenue increase of $7,750,999 as part of the election documentation.

The board’s action was a certification of the record rather than a determination of the election outcome on the ballot measure itself; the minutes record the board’s statutory finding that the canvass and reporting requirements of the Texas Election Code were met. The special meeting was brief and convened at 8:00 a.m.; there was no public comment recorded for the meeting and the board adjourned at 8:03 a.m.
