On June 4, Clayton’s council approved Ordinance 0062609 to amend job classifications and pay schedules for part-time firefighter/EMS positions after the fire department reported recent vacancies. The fire department representative said the department had not reviewed part-time pay in approximately four years and moved the pay to roughly the 75th percentile in the region to be more competitive; Councilmember Gorman moved for approval and Kelly seconded the motion.
The department indicated the change was covered within the existing budget and would help avoid overtime costs if positions remain vacant. Council voted by voice and the ordinance passed.
