Board approves trial winter sand purchase after debate over quality, price and truck wear

In 'other business' the board debated a proposal from Laney's Construction to supply sand at $8.75 per yard versus an alternate supplier (with lab analysis) offering delivered sand at roughly $13.00–$14.00 per yard. Richard described receiving an analysis from the alternate supplier and negotiating a delivered price down to $13.00. Board members weighed the higher unit cost against truck wear, labor allocation and previous complaints about the lower‑cost sand's performance on town roads.

Several members said they preferred to have town crews focus on other tasks rather than hauling sand long distances, while others stressed the need for a material test before committing to larger purchases. "They have a pit up in Edmonton, and they provide us with, a set an analysis... offered a price of $14 delivered. So I negotiated that down to $13.50," Richard said. The board approved a trial purchase for the season with monitoring and asked staff to secure SIP analysis test results for future purchases; members agreed to revisit the decision if the sand's performance is unsatisfactory.
