Town Manager Richard reported the Route 2 detour is scheduled to begin Monday and said westbound traffic on Main Street will continue to flow while some traffic will be routed down Perkins Street and back to Mechanics Street. He said the town expects additional signage to be installed before the detour starts to minimize disruption.
Richard also described a separate pavement failure at the foot of Upper Main Street. He said a paving company has offered to share repair costs, noting the contractor will pave a roughly 53-by-24-foot section and straighten guardrails; the road will be closed approximately 10 a.m.–2 p.m. tomorrow for initial repairs with a likely additional midday closure next week. "The detour is scheduled to begin Monday," Richard said. The manager said the company indicated it may cost-share up to 50% of a $5,800 repair estimate for the small section, though larger repairs may be needed if the underlying slope and drainage are addressed.
The manager asked the board to be prepared for short-term closures and for staff to post project documents on a dedicated web page so residents can review engineering reports and other materials as they become available.
