Dunedin honors artists behind Leland Chase Outdoor Gallery completion

The Dunedin City Commission on Aug. 6 recognized the artists who contributed to phases 2 and 3 of the Leland Chase Outdoor Gallery, a public-art installation mounted on the wall of the Dunedin Wastewater Treatment Plant at 1140 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.
Nicole Delfino, the city's strategy and sustainability manager, said staff licensed artworks and worked with the Arts & Culture Advisory Committee to place durable vinyl reproductions on the plant wall. Elizabeth Brinklow, the city's art consultant, described the materials used and read brief bios of the contributing artists, including regional creators whose work will remain on the vinyl installation.
Brinklow noted the project honors Elmira Chase and Lorraine Leland, local educators associated with the site's namesakes, and said the installation is intended to celebrate local diversity and community. "Leland Chase Outdoor Gallery is a project of the Arts and Culture Advisory Committee," she said, and staff thanked SpeedPro for printing and installation.
Artists on hand described their inspiration. One artist said the piece showing children "reflects the diversity" of a nearby preschool; another said making art is "healing" and explained completing work quickly in a park setting. The commission accepted the recognition and displayed representatives for photographs.
