Mission CISD board approves superintendent contract for Dr. Cris Valdez, votes 6-0

The Mission Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously Sept. 16 to approve an employment contract making Dr. Cris Valdez the district's superintendent. The special meeting began at 6:35 p.m. at the Mission CISD Annex; the motion passed by a 6-0 tally.
Benjamin Castillo, legal counsel to the board, told trustees, "Before you today, you have a contract that was presented to you last week and negotiated with Dr. Valdez and agreed on (inaudible)." A motion to approve the contract was made by Mrs. Veronica "Betty" R. Mendoza and seconded by Mrs. Dolores Reyna; the minutes record the vote as 6-0 in favor. Dr. Valdez signed the contract at the meeting.
Board members offered congratulatory remarks after the signing. Dr. Cris Valdez, who served as interim superintendent, delivered an acceptance statement thanking her family and the board for the opportunity and saying she was grateful to return to Mission CISD. The board recorded that Natividad Sosa joined remotely for the meeting and that Petra Ramirez was absent.
The meeting concluded after a motion by Mrs. Dolores Reyna to adjourn, seconded by Mrs. Veronica "Betty" R. Mendoza; President Iris Iglesias adjourned the meeting at 6:59 p.m. The minutes were attested by Secretary Veronica "Betty" R. Mendoza.
