Staff: 24‑25 becomes baseline for instructional hours; draft 27‑28 calendar shared

A staff member explained changes to how districts will measure required instructional time, saying the 2024–25 school year will form the new baseline and that districts that reduce time later must make up the hours in later windows. "If you, after 2425, if you cut time for any reason, you have to make that time up in 2620, you have to make it up by 2728," the staff member said.

The same staff member shared a draft 27‑28 calendar described as an "option for a no added cost calendar that puts kids in class more weeks across the calendar year," but cautioned that adding contact days still carries costs for staff in‑service and other non‑student contact days. Board members and staff debated whether more days necessarily improve outcomes: one speaker noted the highest graduation rates appeared in districts with 140–144 day years and urged a focus on instructional quality rather than simply increasing days.
