Superintendent highlights trade/college events, new school speed zone and memorial for former educator

Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Trujillo used the opening portion of the Nov. 21 meeting to highlight recent district events and recognitions. He reported that Nacogdoches High School’s Career & Technical Education Department held a Trade School & Industry Night on Nov. 11 with 13 East Texas industry partners and colleges and universities in attendance, allowing students and parents to meet employers and higher-education representatives.
Trujillo also said a Texas Historical Commission marker recognizing an 1836 encampment of federal troops has been completed and installed on high ground near the district's Nettie Marshall facility; the presentation stated the camp accommodated about 335 federal troops. He noted a College Fair on Nov. 7 hosted more than 40 colleges and all branches of the military.
Trujillo reported safety improvements: a new school speed zone with lights is now in operation on North Street in front of Margie Chumbley Academy for Success. He also announced the death of Malinda Lindsey, a former teacher, principal and director of curriculum at Nacogdoches ISD; services were held Nov. 16. He closed his remarks by thanking staff and stakeholders and wishing the community a happy Thanksgiving next week.
