Mayor proclaims Purple Heart Day; commissioners approve honorary street for fallen officer

At the mayor’s request Chief Oakman presented an item to name a street in honor of Officer Hunter Simonsic, who was killed last year at a county intersection. Chief Oakman described plans for a memorial unveiling on Aug. 26. Commissioner Davis moved to approve the honorary street; the motion was seconded and carried by roll call 10–0.
Commissioners gave brief thanks to law enforcement and community partners during the proclamations and the mayor encouraged applause for attendees. The proclamations and the honorary street resolution were entered into the record as mayoral-agenda items.
