Mendota council adopts zoning code updates, restores floodplain ordinance

City Planner Jennifer Haskamp presented changes the Planning Commission recommended after a May 27 public hearing. Haskamp said the edits were intended to "clean stuff up" and that the DNR had "politely reminded us that we inadvertently removed the floodplain maintenance ordinance," prompting the city to reinstate the DNR model language in Section 808. The amendments also add definitions for building‑height calculations, move a nuisance parking section to the correct chapter, clarify fencing rules, add "wellness, fitness, gym" to the table of uses, and add a pervious‑surface standard for the MRCCA corridor overlay.
Mayor Mielke read Ordinance 0701 and the council approved it (minutes record "Approved 4‑0"). The council also approved the summary publication resolution for 0701 and then approved Ordinance 0702 and its summary publication (minutes record votes 5‑0 for the remaining items). The minutes note the floodplain language is a model ordinance from the DNR and that Section 808 is mostly floodplain material that "really cannot be changed for the most part."
