Dual-enrollment teachers ask for extra compensation as administrative burden grows
Summary
Mount Dora High School teacher Mary Anne Griffith presented a dual-enrollment MOU asking for a $1,200 per-semester district supplement (in addition to existing supplements) to account for duplicate college training and extra administrative duties; bargaining members discussed fairness across part-time sections and the number of teachers involved (about 10–11).

Mary Anne Griffith (S4), a dual-enrollment and 11th-grade honors teacher at Mount Dora High School, presented a proposed MOU for teachers who deliver dual-enrollment courses with Lake Sumter (college partner). Griffith described significant additional responsibilities: duplicate college and state trainings, extra syllabus and course posting work, periodic evaluations by the college, and ongoing communications beyond normal district duties.
Griffith asked that teachers who are teaching dual-enrollment classes receive an additional district supplement of $1,200 per semester paid within 30 days of final grades, on top of any college-related supplements. “The district will provide a $1,200 supplement per semester taught to be paid no more than 30 days after the final grades are posted,” Griffith said. She and colleagues argued that the work is the same whether a teacher teaches one section or multiple sections, because training and monitoring responsibilities are not proportional to section count.
Bargainers discussed the scale: participants estimated about 10–11 teachers currently provide dual-enrollment instruction in the district, most teaching one or two sections rather than being full-time adjuncts. Members raised equity questions (teachers with one section doing the same administrative work as those with more sections) and asked the district to verify how FTE and college reimbursements are handled by Lake Sumter. The district agreed to research comparable supplements, confirm the number of instructors and payout mechanics, and return with documentation for further bargaining.
