Board presents summer curriculum data showing gains, narrowed gaps for English learners

Board member Lisa told the June meeting that district curriculum teams are conducting data analysis this summer and reported several positive trends in district assessments.
"What we're seeing is more students are moving into higher performance tiers," Lisa said, and she cited notable gains in 5th- and 6th-grade math, 3rd-grade math and English language arts, and strong high-school gains (she reported U.S. history proficiency near 96.9% and biology at about 95.4%). She also told the board that 47 professional-learning sessions have been approved for the summer to support instruction.
The superintendent noted a fuller report-card presentation is expected in the fall when the curriculum office and Dr. Martin present analyses to the board. The board did not take action on curriculum items at the meeting; staff said the fall report will provide more detailed, student-level context.
