District clarifies sick-leave donations, sick bank differences and safeguards
Summary
District HR explained that sick-leave donations are discrete requests for employees already on approved leave, while the sick bank is a voluntary, open-enrollment program with stricter medical documentation and limits; the district said it will not solicit donations and will control access to forms to prevent misuse.

Human-resources staff clarified two distinct mechanisms that support employees with serious illness or injury: the sick bank and sick-leave donations. S5 explained that sick bank is an open-enrollment, voluntary program that, if eligible, may provide up to 80 days of paid leave with medical documentation; it is subject to enrollment windows and usage limits.
By contrast, sick-leave donations are a case-by-case process for employees already on approved leave who have exhausted personal leave. The district will not make donation forms readily available to avoid solicitation and will only publish a general notice when an employee has an approved need so that donors are not solicited. Members suggested adding checkboxes or communication touchpoints to the extended-leave form so potential donors can opt in; the district agreed to consider communication changes and a limited checkbox option while keeping privacy and anti-solicitation safeguards intact.
