Planning commission recommends approval of Lurie Children’s Downers Grove hospital PUD amendment

The Downers Grove Planning & Zoning Commission on Aug. 3 recommended that the Village Council approve a planned‑unit‑development amendment that would allow Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago to build a pediatric hospital and clinic at 3300 Lacey Road in the Esplanade at Locust Point.
A commissioner moved that, "based upon the petitioner's submittal, the staff report, and the testimony presented, I find that the petitioner has met the standards of approval" and "recommend to the village council approval of 26‑PZC‑0036, subject to the conditions outlined in the staff report." The motion was seconded and approved by roll call. Staff told commissioners the case will be scheduled for a Village Council first reading on Sept. 1.
Commissioners cited the project’s consistency with the village comprehensive plan, detailed site design and stormwater measures, traffic study results, and the petitioner’s community engagement as reasons for support. Flora Leon, the village senior planner, recommended approval after summarizing the petition and the requested deviations for signage and other limited items.
The recommendation now moves to the Village Council for further review and action; the commission noted that if the council or the applicant seek changes, the petition would return to the commission for additional consideration.
