Bargainers examined the summer-school memorandum of understanding and focused on which positions had been advertised and which grades would be covered. District staff (S1) said they had not changed contractual language other than dates, and that many advertised roles were secondary, with third-grade and ESY (special education) work subject to specific certification requirements.
Union members raised concerns that past grant funding for broader summer programming has been reduced over time, meaning some grades no longer receive the same coverage. S3 noted principals are already presenting the referendum during preplanning and that principals and teachers are asking how much individual employees can expect to receive under the proposed millage-funded programs.
Participants requested more granular budget information by grade and asked the district to provide a calendar addendum or an addendum for the contract that would allow the parties to update dates without reopening the entire MOU. The district agreed to check department-level funding and return that information before the next meeting so MOUs can be finalized and, where appropriate, signed.
