Palmdale wins $283,000 Caltrans planning grant for master bike plan

Public Works Director Lee Torres told the council the city applied in November 2025 and was awarded $283,000 from Caltrans' sustainable transportation planning grant program to develop a Palmdale Master Bike Plan. Torres said the plan will expand and improve the city's bicycle network, establish design standards, create a GIS map showing existing and proposed bike lanes and gaps, and identify future improvement projects.
"City applied for sustainable transportation planning grant back in November 2025 to develop a master bike plan. Palmdale was awarded $283,000 with a required local match from the city in the amount of $36,666," Torres said. The money for the local match will come from local Measure A funds, staff said; after agreement execution staff will issue an RFQ for consultant services and conduct public outreach and pop‑up events. Council moved and unanimously approved the resolution authorizing execution of the restricted Caltrans grant agreement.
Council members emphasized the need for robust public outreach during the planning process and thanked staff for outlining opportunities for community engagement.
