The president said the board will discuss plans for a new superintendent at a future meeting.
Rivera addressed the board after the vote, saying retiring was his decision and reflecting on his tenure. "It's my wish," he said, and added that he will "give this job a 100% of my time between now and December 31" and leave "with no regrets." Rivera described his service spanning two terms and 20 years with the district.
The board also confirmed the summative evaluation process will proceed: members received evaluation scores on July 29 and plan to review materials at an upcoming meeting. The board took no action to name an interim superintendent during the session; Rivera will remain in the post through Dec. 31 as the district begins planning for a successor.
