Planning Commission readies Land Use Code revision, demolition RFQ and downtown remediation talks

Planning Commission Chair M. Todd Ritchie reported to the council that the 30-day comment period for a revised Land Use Code has concluded and the commission will meet on Aug. 6 for final revision before advertising a public hearing.
Ritchie said a subcommittee prepared a request for qualifications (RFQ) for demolition of the Community Building/NYA Hall; the schedule in the RFQ requires a legal ad by July 24, a pre-bid meeting on Aug. 14, sealed bids accepted through Aug. 31 and opening bids during the Sept. 1 council meeting, with demolition to be completed by Sept. 30 by the winning bidder per specifications.
The commission also discussed potential remediation of the McIntosh Hardware site to create greenspace and parking, including completed cost estimates, renderings and a draft memorandum of understanding to discuss with property owners; the transcript notes the donor of fill has approved the material but arrangements for hauling remain to be determined. The Department of Highways was asked to repair sidewalk damage and the site owner raised the possibility of a lease arrangement with the city; follow-up planning discussions were indicated.
