Mission CISD board votes to reestablish standing committees to speed review and oversight

Board Member Natividad Sosa proposed returning to a committee structure to make meetings more efficient and improve communication between trustees and department leaders. Sosa told the board that committees allow trustees to ask detailed questions and receive clarifications in a smaller forum before full-board meetings. "If we went back to Committees... we can get more use of time," she said, arguing the approach would reduce lengthy pull-outs during workshops.

Dolores Reyna outlined the proposed composition for three committees — Transforming Teaching and Learning, Facilities and Environment, and Finance and Operations — and suggested including relevant administrators and department leads so each area could present focused data and recommendations. Questions about past committee conduct were raised; Jerry Zamora expressed concern that previous committees sometimes acted for narrow interests rather than the whole board, and trustees clarified that committee meetings are for study and recommendation, not for final voting. On a motion by Natividad Sosa, seconded by Veronica "Betty" R. Mendoza, the board approved the committee structure unanimously (6-0).
