Consultants and city staff framed the Mary Street–Williston Road scoping study as an opportunity to reconcile a high-volume existing arterial with emerging city-center redevelopment and multimodal goals.
Sean Neely walked the commission through traffic volumes, crash patterns and land-use context, reporting that 2022 counts showed about 28,000 vehicles along much of the study area and 39,000 at Williston Road and Dorset Street. He summarized five-year crash totals at the hotel drives and Mary Street and said the patterns were predominantly angle and rear-end crashes.
Commissioners suggested alternatives ranging from re-locating the signal to Mary Street to exploring split three-way signal configurations, adding left-turn lanes where right-of-way permits, and testing phasing and detection improvements; the consultants said those options are within the study scope for analysis and that access-management recommendations could include updates to the city's official map.
