Superintendent outlines draft cell-phone policy; policy committee to give first read Dec. 9

Superintendent Tom summarized a superintendent’s report that included a draft cell-phone policy developed after community forums and three surveys (students, staff, parents/guardians). He said an executive summary and the survey results are posted on the district website for board review.
Tom said the policy is currently in draft form and will be presented to the policy committee for a first read on Dec. 9, followed by a second read before adoption. "So the goal with this is that the December 9, it'll be the first time in the policy committee that they'll give it a first read," he said. He added that final adoption realistically may occur after midwinter break in February and noted that state guidance (the governor) could change the district's timeline.
Tom also highlighted other superintendent business, including praise for student theatrical performances and the DECA program activity. No action to adopt the cell-phone policy was taken at the meeting.
